Carrie Underwood confirms her performance at Donald Trump’s inauguration
Multi-Grammy Award-winner Carrie Underwood will be one of the performers at Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20, 2025. Trump’s transition team stated that Underwood would sing a rendition of “America the Beautiful,” accompanied by the Armed Forces Chorus and the U.S. Naval Academy Glee Club. Victor Willis, the lead singer of the music group Village People, had disclosed that they would also take the stage at the event. (via Axios)
“I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event,” Underwood, who has remained largely apolitical throughout her career, remarked in a statement. “I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future,” she added. At Trump’s 2017 inauguration, the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square performed “America the Beautiful,” a song written by Katharine Lee Bates in the late 19th century. Samuel A. Ward, a choirmaster, created the music.
An Oklahoma native, 41-year-old Underwood gained initial fame as a participant and eventual winner of the fourth season of American Idol. Her debut album, Some Hearts (2005), became a massive hit, helping her to gain a solid footing in the industry. She has since come to be regarded as one of the best country singers of today. Further, Underwood has won several Grammys and sold more than 85 million records globally, making her one of the best-selling artists in history.
Notably, at the 2017 Country Music Awards, Underwood and fellow musical artist Brad Paisley performed a parody of the former’s track “Before He Cheats,” in which they jokingly made references to Trump’s activities on X (formerly Twitter).
