Here’s what Mariska Hargitay said about her friendship with Christopher Meloni
In a recent interview with Today, Mariska Hargitay reminisced about the events from her and Meloni’s auditions together for SVU. She revealed that when they entered the room, although they were strangers, SVU creator Dick Wolf knew that very minute that they were destined to share the screen for the show.
Hargitay described the audition as “a sort of once-in-a-lifetime experience.” Further, she detailed what her thoughts were upon seeing Meloni auditioning for a role beside her during one of the callbacks she received. “In the room, when he walked in, I sort of sized him up, and I said, ‘That’s the guy.’ … It was so obvious to me that that was the guy, and apparently, he felt the same way,” she said.
The actor further added that the two had recognized early on that they had “good chemistry.” She said, “Even at times when we were, like, fighting or had a difference of opinion, or things getting tense, we still had it. It’s chemistry, right?”
Previously, in an exclusive interview with People, Hargitay revealed that when she first met Meloni for the screen test, she mistook him for John Slattery, known for his iconic role as Roger Sterling in Mad Men.
She then went on to talk about her friendship with Meloni. “We met and the rest is history. It’s iconic. [He’s] somebody who’s changed my life so much, somebody I love,” the actor shared.
Currently, Hargitay is married to Peter Hermann and shares three kids with him. On the other hand, Meloni is married to Doris Sherman Williams and has two children.
