Mandy Moore Addresses GoFundMe Backlash Amid LA Fire

Curious about why Mandy Moore’s GoFundMe campaign caused such a stir during the ongoing LA fire crisis? The devastating wildfires have wreaked havoc across Southern California, destroying homes and displacing countless residents. While many celebrities, including Adam Brody, Anna Faris, and Sebastian Harrison, have lost properties, Mandy Moore became a focal point of controversy after asking the public to help her family through a crowdfunding effort.

Here’s everything about the backlash and her response.

How did Many Moore react to backlash over GoFundMe campaign?

Last Thursday, the Healing Incantation singer put out an Instagram post, which she has since deleted, informing her followers of the losses incurred by her brother-in-law, Griff Goldsmith, and sister-in-law, Kit Goldsmith. In the post, Mandy Moore requested the public to assist her family via a GoFundMe campaign, stating, “Please consider donating and sharing to help them rebuild.”

“With their first baby on the way in a matter of weeks, they need our support now more than ever,” Moore added. She also explained the dire situation of her brother-in-law, noting, “Griff is a touring musician and also lost his entire arsenal of drums/percussion he uses to make a living. It’s all so much.”

Nevertheless, Moore’s request for her followers to contribute to the said GoFundMe campaign has invited much criticism from the general public. Several users have highlighted her hypocrisy of asking money from regular working-class people instead of covering the amount herself.

Responding to the criticism about her GoFundMe ask, Mandy Moore recently took to Instagram to state, “People questioning whether we’re helping out our own family or attributing some arbitrary amount of money google says someone has is NOT helpful or empathetic. Of course we are.” She also explained that the campaign was actually started by one of her friends, conveying, “Our buddy Matt started this go fund me and i’m sharing because people have asked how they can help them. We just lost most of our life in a fire too. Kindly F OFF. No one is forcing you to do anything,” as per USA Today.

Despite the intense backlash, the GoFundMe campaign has drawn in over $200,000. However, new donations have now been disabled.
