Ricki Lake shares emotional note about her ‘Dream house’

Devastating wildfires in Southern California destroyed Ricki Lake’s Malibu home, which the former talk show host called her “dream home.”

On January 8, 2025, Lake shared the tragic news on Instagram, saying, “It’s all gone.” She revealed that a friend bravely tried to save the property but couldn’t prevent its destruction. Lake described the home as “heaven on earth” and noted that she and her husband, Ross Burningham, married there in January 2022.

Lake purchased the Malibu property five and a half years ago before starting the construction on the house in 2019. In a Facebook post from August 2019, she celebrated the progress, writing, “My new #Malibu home is happening! I bought this sacred property 5 1/2 years ago and it’s finally taking shape.”

She regularly shared sunset views from the home on social media, and the loss has been described as “immeasurable,” per PEOPLE. Lake also expressed sympathy for others affected by the fires, saying, “I grieve along with all of those suffering during this apocalyptic event.”

The wildfire, known as the Palisades fire, became one of the most destructive in Los Angeles County’s history, consuming over 11,800 acres and resulting in the destruction of more than 1,000 structures. The fires caused mass evacuations, with approximately 100,000 residents forced to leave their homes. The death toll has risen to five.

Several celebrities, including Ricki Lake, Adam Brody, Leighton Meester, Anthony Hopkins, and Paris Hilton, lost their homes in the devastating wildfires. Ashton Kutcher joined firefighting efforts by helping friends protect their properties. Meanwhile, authorities urge residents to conserve water as firefighters struggle with limited resources to battle the flames.
