On Monday, January 6, 2025, the Aladdin actor dropped an interesting video on his Instagram. The video showcased a wall text that displayed how Smith was offered The Matrix back in 1997. He was offered the role of Neo but things did not work out. Smith ended up choosing the film Wild Wild West believing it was a better choice. Further, the video added what would have happened if Smith accepted the role of Neo. The text also said, ”Wake up, Will… The Matrix has you.”
This post ended up taking social media by storm with many speculating it as a tease regarding Smith’s entry in the Matrix Reboot. One fan in the comment section requested Smith not to play with him and asked whether this was a hint about his entry. Another fan expressed excitement about Smith and Keanu Reeves’s collaboration in the film.
The X account of My Time To Shine Hello reposted Smith’s Instagram video. He commented saying, “Looks like it’s for a Super Bowl commercial.”
Despite speculations, Will Smith’s entry in the Matrix franchise has not yet been confirmed. For the unaware, the actor spoke up about his reason for rejecting Matrix in 1997 in his 2019 YouTube video. He said he found Lilly and Lana geniuses ”but there’s a fine line between genius and what I experienced in the meeting.” Smith was unimpressed in the meeting but he felt Matrix wouldn’t have been a huge success if he played Neo.
