Squid Game Season 2 has been piquing interest ever since its release. It showcased Gi-hun’s attempts to put an end to the ruthless games after winning it in the previous season. Amidst the engaging storyline, there was a new character named Thanos that left viewers intrigued. So, who is Thanos in Squid Game Season 2 and does he die?

Squid Game Season 2’s Thanos explained

Choi Su-bong aka Thanos is a famous rapper in Squid Game Season 2.

In Squid Game Season 2, Seung-Hyun’s character Thanos is Player 230. Fans began speculating if the character is similar to or connected with the popular villain of the same name in the MCU. While there was no connection, the series does mention the ruthless titan.

In the episode, Su–bong says, ”I, Thanos the Great, will protect you.” Further, the other player asks if he has got ”all the Infinity Stones.” to which he answers yes by flaunting his nail colors similar to the Stones. Thanos is shown as a bankrupt who lost all his money in the fraudulent Dalmatian Bitcoin gamble.

He is addicted to psychedelic drugs which helps him escape the brutality of the games. Thanos is shown as a dangerous man who pushes players in the dangerous Red Light Green Light game and has his team including Nam-gyu, Se-mi, and Min-su. Thanos’s mission in Season 2 is to fight against Gi-hun and everyone who wants to end the games.

Thanos is portrayed by a former K-Pop star, Choi Seung-hyun aka T.OP. He started his career in South Korea as an underground rapper and rose to fame after joining the famous band called BigBang. Seung-Hyun’s hit songs with the band included Lies, Big Boy, and Last Farewell before leaving the group in 2023.

What happens to Thanos in Squid Game Season 2?

Unfortunately, Thanos does die in the second season of Squid Game.

In one of the episodes, Thanos and Nam Gyu get mad at Hyun Ju for changing teams before they can pay back. This leads to a violent situation with Thanos trying to stop the rebels and even trying to choke Hyun Ju. However, Hyun Ju ends up stabbing him in the neck and Thanos eventually succumbs to the wound.
