Why Is Twitter Wrapped 2024 Going Viral on X?

Twitter Wrapped 2024 is trending on X (formerly Twitter), prompting many people to wonder what it is and why it is going viral. The trend shares similarities in its name with Spotify Wrapped and is based on the same concept. Notably, the audio streaming and media service Spotify launched Spotify Wrapped as an annual marketing campaign in 2016. The app’s users receive a visual representation of the type of music they favored in the previous year and can subsequently share it on social media.

Reason why Twitter Wrapped 2024 is going viral on X

Twitter Wrapped is a brand new trend on X (formerly Twitter), though there have been calls for it for some time. On December 27, 2024, Exa AI Labs released a tool that offers X users a summary of their activities this year and creates a personalized post about it. Exa AI Labs used the phrase “Twitter Wrapped” in their original post. Since then, it has gone viral, with numerous accounts using the tool and sharing their results with the key phrase, “Twitter Wrapped!”

Garry Tan, the president and CEO of Y Combinator and founder of Initialized Capital is one of the people who used Twitter Wrapped. “Society is about to be supercharged by AGI so it’s no mistake that charting a path for policy that paves the way for legalizing math, merit and prosperity has been on my mind,” he posted.

Per its official website, Exa is the first-ever search engine optimized to return exactly what a user asks for. The company reportedly sells its “search usage-based to customers.” Its current CEO is Will Bryk, a Harvard alum.

Demands for Twitter Wrapped had been put forward for a while, but the idea gained traction this December. Since its launch, people have been using the tool to find out what they have done on X this year, how they spent their time, the words they used most, and whether they are on Santa’s naughty or nice list.
