Sources close to the charity Operation Smile say people were upset when Jessica Simpson failed to show at the organization’s benefit last week. Simpson, a staunch supporter of the charity for the past 10 years, has taken sponsored trips to Africa and even lobbied members of Congress on behalf of the organization in March of last year. However, ever since her divorce from Nick Lachey, she has been less than enthusiastic to help children smile. A source says:
She’s turned her back on them. She got a lot of good publicity from the charity but refused to let pictures of her be in the commemorative book and hasn’t done anything with them in a year.”
However, a rep for Simpson said the actress did not attend because she was an honoree at the UNESCO Gala to Benefit Children in Need:
…partly for her work with Operation Smile. Jess was one of four honorees for her philanthropic work. She sang two songs, and the event raised about $3 million to build schools all over the world.”
In unrelated news, reports are everywhere today saying John Mayer dumped Jessica Simpson. See? Don’t be sad, kids. That bad lady with the scary face is crying now, too.
