When Mario Kart 8 came out last month it took the world by storm. It quickly became one of the most streamed games on Twitch, and was talked about on social media frequently—thanks, Luigi Death Stare. It’s no surprise that it’s sold well, but just how well is what everyone is wondering.
Nintendo has confirmed that Mario Kart 8 has surpassed the two million sales mark, making it the fourth best-selling title behind New Super Mario Bros. U, Nintendo Land, and Super Mario 3D World.
Last month the Wii U was at around 6.2 million sales worldwide, a figure that deemed it unsuccessful and on a path to ruin. However, Mario Kart 8 has apparently boost its sales, thanks in-part to the high-value Mario Kart 8 Wii U bundle.

No Wii U sales figures will be released until the next quarterly fiscal report, but chances are the numbers are only reasonably good. I haven’t seen any indication that Mario Kart 8 Wii U bundles are flying off store shelves. The Wii U’s price point and Nintendo’s poor marketing of the device has put it in a position where it’ll take more than a Mario Kart to get it some sales traction. Maybe Bayonetta 2 and Super Smash Bros. will do the trick.
