March NPD: PS4 Beats Xbox One (Again), Titanfall Smashes Software Charts

March NPD Group statistics have been announced, and they put the PS4 above the Xbox One for the month. While the PS4’s total in the U.S. is an undisclosed amount, Microsoft had no problem sharing its 311,000 figure.

While the Xbox One came in second place, it boasts some impressive statistics elsewhere including its 2.9 games sold per console and its Titanfall sales. Titanfall took the top spot beating out inFamous: Second Son among other games.

The software top 10 chart is as follows:

  • Titanfall (Xbox One, PC)
  • inFamous: Second Son (PS4)
  • South Park: The Stick of Truth (Xbox 360, PS3, PC)
  • Call of Duty: Ghosts (Xbox 360, PS4, PS3, Wii U, Xbox One, PC)
  • Dark Souls 2 (Xbox 360, PS3)
  • Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes (PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360)
  • NBA 2K14 (Xbox 360, PS4, PS3, Xbox One, PC)
  • Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster (PS3, PS Vita)
  • The LEGO Movie Videogame (Xbox 360, PS3, 3DS, Wii U, Xbox One, PS4, PS Vita)
  • Minecraft (Xbox 360)

The Xbox One’s $499 price tag is becoming a burden. Even the $450 bundles made available during March weren’t enough to put it in first place. The Xbox One has some things to be proud of, which have created some momentum, but the PS4 is like gold in the eyes of the consumer right now.

New Xbox head Phil Spencer is very gaming focus, and if I were a betting man I’d say he’s going to cut the Kinect’s life support sooner rather than later. Kinect Sports Rivals hasn’t validated the nearly $100 device for gaming, so what else is? The Xbox One needs to be under $400, and it needs it now if Microsoft wants to have anything close to a major market share a couple years down the road.
