The street on which the Vegemite is manufactured in Port Melbourne has officially changed its name to Vegemite Way.
Formerly Cook Street, the newly named Vegemite Way was unveiled at a special breakfast event by Lord Mayor of Melbourne Robert Doyle. “Vegemite is part of the story of Melbourne,” said the Lord Mayor as he address a crowd of assembled media, Vegemite enthusiasts and factory workers.
As part of the celebration, the street is today hosing a gathering of market stalls, outdoor cafe seating and live music.
As a result of the change, Australian jars of Vegemite will now have the new factory address on each label; 1 Vegemite Way.
