Despite initial hesitation from fans and critics alike, it’s undeniable that Daniel Craig has become one of the most popular actors to play James Bond. So it will surely come as great news to many to learn that Spectre will not be the actors last turn as the iconic secret agent.
Speaking to The Mail on Sunday’s Event magazine, Craig told media that he has no plans to leave the franchise despite rumours he was considering a departure after completing work on Skyfall.
“I work myself to death,” the actor said: “It’s getting harder. But such is life. I’ll keep going as long as I’m physically able.”
Skyfall being the first film in the franchise to break the billion dollar mark and the most profitable Bond film so far, it’s unsurprising that Craig has chosen to stay on, especially seeing as though he has negotiated a £31 million deal to star in two more films.
Regardless, the rumour mills have been swirling with potential replacements for Craig should he leave the role. Idris Elba, Henry Cavill, Tom Hardy and Michael Fassbender all being thrown around as possibilities, the conversation became a hot topic for the internet with Queen La-Beef-a Azelia Banks even weighing in.
Refusing to put stock in the rumours, Craig stops short of 100% ruling out a replacement stating “I’m contracted for one more – but I’m not going to make predictions”.
Set for release in the US on Novemebr 6th and in Australia on the 22nd with the likes of Christoph Waltz, Naomie Harris, Ralph Fiennes, Ben Whishaw, Lea Seydoux, Monica Bellucci and Dave Bautista starring alongside Craig as Bond, Spectre is one of the most hotly anticipated films of the year.
Directed by Sam Mendes, who will leave the franchise after this film, this will be the last time the dream team that gave us Skyfall will be working together, with the film described by Craig and Mendes in various interviews as Skyfall, but bigger in every way.
Colour me excited.
