It could be argued that everyone goes to war with themselves eventually, but Shailene Woodley takes that idea pretty literally in the sci-fi thriller Insurgent. The blockbuster film, adapted from the popular Divergent series of novels by Veronica Roth, stars Woodley as Tris, a young woman living in a dystopian society where everyone is divided by their inner natures. Those whose natures cannot be confined to a single idea, like Tris, are labeled “divergent” and considered enemies of the state.
Insurgent finds Tris on the run with her friends from the previous film, after a failed coup leaves the villainous Jeanine (Kate Winslet) scrambling to find a new plan. She needs Tris to open a mysterious box, but it can only be opened after Tris passes a series of deadly tests. The climax includes an impressive visualized scene of Tris literally fighting herself, but that’s not the kind of thing you can improvise on the day, so the upcoming Insurgent home video release includes a special behind the scenes look at how the memorable action sequence was filmed, and adjusted using computer generated imagery.
