Arrow Season 4 Adds Anarky & Mr. Terrific

The day before Comic-Con International, The CW announced that veteran actor Neal McDonough was joining the cast of Arrow as season 4’s big bad, Damien Darhk. But McDonough won’t be the only new face next season.

Comic Book Resources is reporting that Alexander Calvert has also joined Arrow as Lonnie Machin AKA Anarky. As originally created by Alan Grant and Norm Breyfogle in 1989, Machin was a child pretending to be a much older man when he went up against Batman as Anarky. After several run-ins with Batman and Robin, Anarky became more of an antihero and he even had his own monthly comic book series in 1997.

On Arrow, Anarky will be decidedly less heroic. The CW describes the character as “a deranged freelancing criminal who is willing to do whatever it takes to impress a potential employer.”

Almost as if to counter that announcement, Entertainment Weekly revealed that Echo Kellum was cast as the superhero Mr. Terrific AKA Curtis Holt. In 1997, John Ostrander and Tom Mandrake created Michael Holt and he became the second hero to call himself Mr. Terrific after embracing the heroic legacy of his predecessor, Terry Sloan. The big twist for Arrow’s Mr. Terrific is that Curtis Holt will be gay, while his comic book counterpart mourned the loss of his wife and unborn child.

Holt may not be an immediate member of Team Arrow, but he will be working with Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards) at Palmer Technologies. Both Anarky and Mr. Terrific will make their debuts in the second episode of Arrow Season 4.

Prior to Arrow, Calvert appeared in Bates Motel and The Returned. Kellum’s previous credits include Ben and Kate, Sean Saves The World, Comedy Bang Bang, and Hot in Cleveland. Both Calvert and Kellum will appear on a recurring basis throughout the fourth season.

Arrow Season 4 will begin on Wednesday, October 7 on The CW.
