There Will “Absolutely Be a Woman” in New Top Gear Line-up, says New Host Chris Evans

BBC Radio 2 presenter Chris Evans has been announced as the replacement for Jeremy Clarkson on Top Gear, and has stated that there “absolutely be a woman” joining him in the show’s new line-up.

Previously Top Gear had three male hosts – Richard Hammond, James May and the ousted Jeremy Clarkson – and rumours circulating that a woman could replace Clarkson in his role immediately set off Internet’s sexism klaxon, with fans of the BBC show protesting that their boys-only treehouse could see an icky girl join its ranks. Well now those men will be tweeting and writing angry Facebook status updates protesting even harder, as Evans has said that he can “100% confirm” that at least one of his co-hosts will be a woman.

Speaking to Radio 5 Live’s Nicky Campbell, Evans said that Top Gear would have a female presenter for the first time in the show’s history, but “not for the sake of it.” While it hasn’t been confirmed who it will be, Evans claimed that the list is a long one and that he and the Top Gear team have yet to decide who will be taking on the role.

Great British Bake Off host Sue Perkins was rumoured to be taking the role prior to Chris Evans’ appointment, with her leaving Twitter due to a flood of death threats and harassment from fans of the BBC show, and it seems that this new announcement hasn’t been met warmly by the man-babies either:

Despite Clarkson having been sacked from his position at Top Gear, it seems that he has left a lasting impact of bigotry and flagrant sexism.
