From the team that brought you Saving Private Ryan and Catch Me If You Can comes Bridges of Spies. The new Cold War thriller reunites two-time Oscar-winning director Steven Spielberg and two-time Oscar-winning actor Tom Hanks, and if the first trailer is any indication, they’re hoping the Academy takes notice once again.
What’s more, they’re bringing Oscar-winning screenwriters Joel and Ethan Coen, aka The Coen Bros. (No Country For Old Men) on board to co-write the screenplay with Matt Charman (Our Zoo). So the pedigree on Bridge of Spies is extremely impressive.

Just don’t forget to modulate your expectations. You may think that a Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks team-up sounds like a surefire hit, or at least a critical success and serious awards season contender, but that’s just what we all thought about The Terminal and… well, hardly anybody even remembers The Terminal anymore, do they?
Here’s the official synopsis: A dramatic thriller set against the backdrop of a series of historic events, DreamWorks Pictures/Fox 2000 Pictures’ “Bridge of Spies” tells the story of James Donovan, a Brooklyn lawyer who finds himself thrust into the center of the Cold War when the CIA sends him on the near-impossible task to negotiate the release of a captured American U-2 pilot. Screenwriters Matt Charman and Ethan Coen & Joel Coen have woven this remarkable experience in Donovan’s life into a story inspired by true events that captures the essence of a man who risked everything and vividly brings his personal journey to life.
Bridge of Spies arrives in theaters on October 16, 2015.
