Comic scribe Robert Kirkman has used the success of The Walking Dead on AMC to sell an original series, Outcast to Cinemax and land a spot in the writer’s room for the The Transformers franchise. Apparently, AMC would prefer to have Kirkman to itself.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kirkman has signed” a rich, multiyear deal” with AMC to continue executive producing The Walking Dead and the upcoming prequel series, Fear The Walking Dead. Additionally, Kirkman will create and develop new series for AMC.
Kirkman’s Thief of Thieves was already in development at AMC prior to this deal. Kirkman’s previously announced project at Cinemax and his participation in the Transformers franchise are also exempt from the AMC deal. Kirkman is also an executive producer of the Talking Dead aftershow for The Walking Dead, which is hosted by Chris Hardwick.
In the announcement, AMC President Charlie Collier said “Robert Kirkman is a remarkable creative talent, a partner and a friend. We at AMC feel so fortunate to be working with him in-house and — beginning this summer, among other shared endeavors — extending our fight against the zombie masses to another major metropolitan area.”
Fear The Walking Dead will premiere this summer on AMC, with The Walking Dead Season 6 to follow in October 2015.
