‘The Green Inferno’ Will FINALLY Be Released in September

For a filmmaker whose name is more or less synonymous with “horror,” Eli Roth sure hasn’t directed a lot of movies lately. But that’s not entirely his fault. The director of Cabin Fever and Hostel completed a gory homage to Cannibal Holocaust several years ago, but after playing the festival circuit his contemporary flesh-eating travelogue The Green Inferno got mired in production disputes, and completely fell off of the release schedule for several years.

But that was yesterday. Today, Eli Roth has announced via Facebook that Jason Blum, the producer of the Insidious and Paranormal Activity movies, has picked up The Green Inferno for his company, Blumhouse Productions. The Green Inferno will premiere on September 25, 2015. It’s an unusual date to premiere Eli Roth’s latest, because it will be in direct competition with two more horror movies debuting that same day: The Disappointments Room, directed by D.J. Caruso (Disturbia), and Before I Wake, directed by Mike Flanagan (Oculus).

CraveOnline has been tracking The Green Inferno for years, and reviewed it WAY back in 2013 at the Toronto International Film Festival. At the time, we said that the film “shatter[s] expectations” and pointed out that “Roth sure knows how to kill people.”

Now that audiences will finally get to see The Green Inferno for themselves, perhaps we’ll finally hear more about Eli Roth’s proposed follow-up, Beyond the Green Inferno, later this year.
