At the end of 24: Live Another Day, Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) resigned himself to his fate and surrendered to the Russians. It was seen a definitive ending for Jack, but that might not be the end of 24.
TVLine is reporting that Fox is developing a new 24 spinoff miniseries with executive producers Howard Gordon, Manny Cotto, and Evan Katz. The report indicates that Jack Bauer may also return, but only as a guest star who weaves in and out of the story.
Instead of Jack, the new 24 spinoff series would follow “a new twentysomething male terrorist hunter” who partners up with “an older, more seasoned female agent.” Surprisingly, the female agent won’t be Yvonne Strahovski’s Kate Morgan from 24: Live Another Day. However, there is also a chance that Strahovski will also appear in the proposed spinoff.

It’s hard not to get a whiff of desperation from Fox’s recent programming moves. The six episode miniseries of The X-Files, the potential 24 spinoff and even talk of a Prison Break revival make it seem like the network wants to revisit past hits because even a hit series like Empire can’t carry Fox alone.
Unlike The X-Files, the 24 spinoff miniseries could be turned into a regular series since the new actors and actresses will presumably be easier to sign to long term contracts than Sutherland or other returning performers from the original 24. Having a new 24 series on the schedule would also give Fox another franchise, if fans are able to accept someone other than Jack Bauer in the lead.
