Before his untimely death in 1973, martial arts icon Bruce Lee left behind Warrior, an unfinished passion project that was largely forgotten for decades.
Deadline is reporting that Lee’s Warrior has new life at Cinemax. Banshee creator Jonathan Tropper and Fast & Furious director Justin Lin are developing Warrior as a drama series, with Lin attached to direct the potential pilot episode from Tropper’s script.
Warrior is a crime drama that follows “a gifted but morally corrupt fighter” whose life is thrown into turmoil after his long-held ambitions for revenge are thwarted. Although Lee worked on Warrior for several years, it was never published or shown to the public. Lee’s daughter, Shannon Lee discovered her father’s notes on the project and everything that he had written for it before bringing it to Lin’s Perfect Storm Entertainment.
Bruce Lee Enterprises will be producing Warrior with Shannon Lee and Perfect Storm Entertainment. Tropper reportedly joined the project as an executive producer and a writer after Cinemax picked up Warrior for development.

The timing of Warrior is fortuitous, as AMC’s martial arts drama, Into The Badlands has gone straight-to-series and other cable and broadcast networks have martial arts shows in development or scheduled.
It’s not clear where Warrior would fall on Lin’s schedule, as he is currently slated to direct the third Star Trek in the rebooted film series. Lin recently directed the first two episodes of HBO’s True Detective Season 2 and the pilot episode of Scorpion on CBS.
