Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 Announced

The next legitimate numbered iteration of the beloved skating franchise is officially real, according to an announcement by Activision and developer Robomodo.

This apparently is a return to that which made the series what it is — the gameplay. Remember the glory days of the PSOne and PS2? That era was the last time we saw a true Pro Skater title. Can you believe it’s been thirteen years? Pro Skater 4 released in 2002, and was the last in the lineup of stellar skating titles until now.

There will, of course, be a few shiny new additions to the game itself, because as much as Activision would love to simply re-skin a thirteen year-old title and call it a day (*cough*), they have to give gamers something to look forward to. As one might expect, a couple of the new aspects being brought into the fold include missions that are able to be tackled competitively or cooperatively online, and a seamless online-offline flow that allows you to level up your skater continuously. Another interesting inclusion is powerups, along with projectiles that are specially implemented in various ways as the specific mission you’re playing demands. And, like most online-enabled multiplayer titles have nowadays, Pro Skater 5 will ship with a skate park editor, with custom creations able to be shared with the community.

Tony Hawk is obviously present in the skater list this time around, but some new names have made the cut, influenced by the characters in the last few Pro Skater games: Nyjah Huston, Aaron Homoki, Ishod Wair, Riley Hawk, Lizzie Armanto, Chris Cole, David Gonzalez, Leticia Bufoni, and Andrew Reynolds.

Look for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 to hit the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One later this year, with PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions arriving soon after. There is no mention of a PC release at this time, unfortunately.
