Just as many predicted, the last two Heisman Trophy winners were drafted back-to-back at the top of the first round of Thursday night’s NFL Draft.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected controversial star “Famous” Jameis Winston No. 1 overall, followed by the Tennessee Titans who took Oregon star Marcus Mariota at No. 2. Unconventionally, both stars were at home surrounded by friends and family, instead of attending the draft, which is held in Chicago this year.
In a little bit of irony, both the Buccaneers and Titans play each other the first week of the season. Now the question is whether or not they will both be starting right away.
Winston at No. 1:
Mariota at No. 2 (and NFL Commish Roger Goodell butchering his name):
Winston celebrated by posing with a picture of crab legs and posting it on Instagram. If you know anything about his history you know that’s a questionable move, to say the least. The picture has since been taken down.
The best pick of the night came when the Denver Broncos took Missouri standout defensive end Shane Ray, who was just busted this past week for marijuana. Although pot is legal in Colorado, it’s illegal in the NFL. Therefore, Ray’s draft stock plummeted from being a lock for a top 10 pick, to possibly the 2nd or 3rd round. Instead, he found himself somewhere in between, where Denver took him at 23rd overall.
