You Should Absolutely Not Buy Batman: Arkham Knight’s $40 Season Pass

I’m as excited for Batman: Arkham Knight as the next guy, but when Warner Bros. announced today that the Arkham series would receive another overpriced season pass, I set my wallet on fire, put its ashes into a locked safe and then threw that safe off of a bridge in order to ensure that I’d never even contemplate purchasing it.

The season pass, which is priced at an unforgivably high $40, will include “six months of post-launch content” that equates to more story missions, villains, Batmobile skins, challenge maps, race tracks and character skins. Of course, there’s no further information about this DLC content for you to justify to yourself that it’s worth forking out two-thirds of the full game’s retail price, but that’s the way things are these days. People will complain but other people will still buy it, leading to this kind of shameful money-grubbing continuing until the end of time.

It’s not exactly like the Arkham series is well-known for providing worthwhile DLC, either. Arkham City‘s Harley Quinn’s Revenge story content was disappointing, while Arkham Origins‘ season pass was almost thoroughly useless, with Warner Bros. going on record to say that they were too busy working on DLC packs to fix the multitude of bugs and problems with the game post-release.

Basically, you should stay far away from this season pass. Asking $40 of players while providing them with little insight into whether or not they’ll get their money’s worth is inexcusable, and as if to make matters worse, Warner Bros. is also offering the “Premium Edition” of the game for $100, which includes the game and the season pass, saving you an estimated $0.

It’s almost like they’ve given up on trying to be subtle about ripping off their customers.
