J.K. Simmons To Headline Supernatural Thriller on STARZ

J.K. Simmons is coming back to TV.

Deadline is reporting that Simmons has been signed to play the lead character in Counterpart, a new supernatural thriller on STARZ that has been ordered to series. Simmons will play Howard Silk, “a lowly cog in a bureaucratic UN agency who is turning the last corner of a life filled with regret, when he discovers the agency he works for is guarding a secret: a crossing to a parallel dimension. Through Howard and his ‘Counterpart’ on the other side, Prime, the show will navigate themes of identity, idealism, what ifs, and lost love.”

According to the report, STARZ hasn’t decided on the length of the pickup for Counterpart, but it may be for more than one season. Counterpart was created and written by Justin Marks (Jungle Book). Imitation Game director Morten Tyldum is going to direct the first two episodes of the series.

Simmons recently won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in Whiplash and he is well known for playing J. Jonah Jameson in the first three Spider-Man films. Simmons also has an extensive history on television, with long stints on OZ, Law & Order and TNT’s The Closer.
