Holy 1966! Adam West and Burt Ward to Star in a New Animated Batman Movie!

The news is out, old chum! Over the weekend at Mad Monster Con, Adam West, 86, and Burt Ward, 69, will oficially be reprising their famous roles as Batman and Robin in an upcoming animated Batman feature film, based on the 1966 Batman TV series. The film, annouced to be a feature-length 90 minutes, will likely be released in a streaming or straight-to-video format, and will be released in 2016, perhaps around the time of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, if our knowledge of intermarketing is anything to be trusted. 2016 will also be the 50th anniversary of the original classic TV show, which was only recently released on Blu-ray, after decades of rights negotiating.

The announcment was made over the weekend at Mad Monster Con where West and Ward declared that they will both be playing their original characters and that they are “definitely participating.” This animated movie comes on the heels of a recent series of comic books called Batman ’66, which is made to look like the original television show in both the art and the writing. The original show is colorful, energetic, and intentionally corny, which is a bold contrast to the brooding melancholy that has marked the character for the past few decades. However much Batman evolves, we’re always eager to see the original in all its glory.
