The biggest mystery of Wayward Pines isn’t the enigmatic town itself. It’s whether M. Knight Shyamalan can use this upcoming miniseries to revitalize his career in Hollywood.
Based on the novel Pines by Blake Crouch, Wayward Pines is a ten episode event series that follows Secret Service agent Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon) after he finds himself trapped in the titular town while searching for missing agents. Burke soon discovers that escape from the town is nearly impossible as the residents are terrorized into following commands received by telephone messages on pain of death.

Chad Hodge developed Wayward Pines for television and wrote the pilot script which Shyamalan directed. Shyamalan also serves as an executive producer for Wayward Pines, which features Empire star Terrence Howard, with Toby Jones, Carla Gugino, Shannyn Sossamon, Reed Diamond, Tim Griffin, Juliette Lewis, Charlie Tahan, Melissa Leo, and Siobhan Fallon Hogan also in the cast.
During last night’s season finale of Empire, Fox debuted a new trailer for Wayward Pines, which you can see below.
Wayward Pines will premiere on May 14 on Fox.
