Dominic Cooper may be trading one comic book universe for another.
According to The Tracking Board, Cooper has emerged as the frontrunner to star in Preacher, AMC’s adaptation of the classic Vertigo comic book series created by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon.
If the rumor is true, Cooper would play Jesse Custer, a small town preacher who is imbued with the word of God which forces almost anyone to follow his commands. To literally find God (the Almighty, who has abandoned Heaven), Jesse teams up with his ex-girlfriend (and professional assassin) Tulip, and a drunken Irish vampire named Cassidy.

Cooper is primarily known as a feature film actor with roles in Mamma Mia!, An Education, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Dracula Untold and Need For Speed. However, Cooper recently recurred on Agent Carter as Howard Stark, a role he first played in Captain America: The First Avenger.
The Tracking Board notes that a formal offer has not been made to Cooper, and there is no guarantee that he would take the part. However, Cooper’s casting would be considered a coup for AMC.
Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and Breaking Bad veteran Sam Catlin are shepherding AMC’s adaptation of Preacher. The pilot episode is expected to film later this year.
