It’s long been a tradition for film and TV projects adapted from DC Comics’ iconic superheroes to feature performers from the previous incarnations in new roles. That fact remains true for the upcoming Supergirl TV series on CBS.
Deadline is reporting that Helen Slater (pictured above) and Dean Cain have been cast in mystery roles in the Supergirl pilot episode. Slater played Kara Zor-El aka Supergirl in the 1984 Supergirl feature film. Cain was TV’s Superman in the early ‘90s on Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.
Both Slater and Cain made guest appearances on Smallville, with Slater taking on the role of Supergirl’s mother, Allura Zor-El and Cain giving a villainous turn as Dr. Curtis Knox.

For CBS, Glee co-star Melissa Benoist is portraying the new Kara Zor-El, a young Kryptonian woman attempting to find a place for herself on Earth outside of her legendary cousin, Superman. The Supergirl TV series recently added Chyler Leigh as Kara’s human foster sister, Alexandria Danvers, with David Harewood, Calista Flockhart, and Mehcad Brooks in supporting roles.
Supergirl has already been ordered to series by CBS, with a potential launch coming in Fall 2015.
