Brutalities Announced for Mortal Kombat X

While this may not come as a surprise, mostly due to the relentless teasing by NetherRealm, Brutalities have finally been officially announced for Mortal Kombat X.

Brutalities are an alternate to fatalities that kills a player by performing an incredibly complicated combo attack to basically beat the opponent to death. They are slightly different in Mortal Kombat X, with a slow-mo, cinematic playing to kill the opponent. NetherRealm stated there are more than 100 Brutalities in the game, and you will be able to combo into a Brutality.

In NetherRealm’s Twitch stream, during the fourth KombatKast on Feb. 26, they showcased the alternate-ality in its full glory. They had to really deliver, as they could not rely on the surprise factor with this announcement. The tagline “it’s going to be Brutal” was used by just about everyone involved with Mortal Kombat X in any way.

The developers even had fun during the early portions of the KombatKast saying “It’s going to be Brutal” before another interjected “ality.”

Brutalities were also reportedly cut out of Mortal Kombat (2011) due to time constraints. But they are back with a vengeance in Mortal Kombat X. We knew it was going to happen, but that doesn’t make it any less impressive.

Mortal Kombat X will release April 14 for the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PC. High Voltage software is taking on development for the last-gen and PC versions of the game.
