I love exploring places with a steeped history, so a recent article on CNN caught my eye: “Exploring the world’s first 12 heritage sites.” With over 1,000 designated heritage sites today, the first 12, which were chosen in 1978, intrigued me, and I still haven’t had a chance to see any of them. They include places such as Yellowstone National Park, Aachen Cathedral, the Galapagos Islands, and the Island of Goree in Senegal. Canadian spots like L’Anse aux Meadows National Historic Park in Newfoundland and Nahanni National Park in the Northwest Territories.

I’m also a big proponent of safe travel… while I love a fun living-on-the-edge getaway (or did when I was a bit younger), these days I want to feel like I’m safe exploring the destination that I’m visiting. So where are the safest cities in the world? The Huffington Post released an article with the five safest, and they are:
1. Tokyo, Japan
2. Singapore
3. Osaka, Japan
4. Stockholm, Sweden
5. Amsterdam, the Netherlands
Believe it or not, the highest-ranking American city on the worldwide list was New York City, coming in at #10, followed by San Fran in 12th.
