The first day of Halo 5: Guardians‘ multiplayer beta has finally arrived, but that’s not the only news concerning the Xbox One exclusive title. Microsoft revealed today three editions of the upcoming game now available for pre-order, including a high-end Collector’s Edition that will run players $250.
The bundles vary widely in price, with the $250 Collector’s Edition at the high end of the spectrum and a $60 “standard edition” on the opposite side. A breakdown of the three bundles can be seen below.
Standard Edition ($60) — Halo 5: Guardians plus an exclusive poster, only available to those who pre-order.
Limited Edition ($100) — Everything in the Standard Edition plus new digital content to enhance Spartan combat and exclusive items wrapped in a uniquely designed steel book.
Limited Collector’s Edition ($250) — Everything in the Limited Edition as well as additional content such as a commemorative numbered statue designed by 343 Industries. More details on the design to be shared at a later date.
The Limited Edition sounds just right to me — the game, new digital content, minimal frills. Of course, Halo superfans may feel differently, and for them the Collector’s Edition should provide a satisfying alternative.
If you’re interested in Halo 5‘s beta, you’ll need to have purchased Halo: The Master Chief Collection. The beta is available to download at 9AM PST today, and from there we can only hope things run smoothly; or, at least, as smoothly as a beta can be expected to run. If Halo 5 hasn’t earned the right to a dependable stable of dedicated servers, then it’s hard to believe anything ever will.
