Reebok and Amway have made their way on to Detroit Red Wings practice jerseys, as seen above. The displaying of sponsors on team uniforms is commonplace in the soccer world (erm…football world, pardon me), but not so in the NFL, NBA, or MLB.
However, the NHL has now stated, via COO John Collins, that team sponsorships being displayed on jerseys is “coming and happening”. Previously, the NHL revealed that they didn’t want to be first to make this practice common in popular televised American sports, but it seems that might be the road they’re taking, considering the payoff is rather lucrative, with estimated numbers coming at over $100 million.
