It’s no secret that Fox News has had a contentious relationship with the current President of the United States, Barack Obama. That’s why it seems somewhat inevitable that the Fox broadcast network is mining some of that tension for a new drama project.
Deadline is reporting that Fox is developing “POTUS,” a series created by Sam Chalsen and Nelson Greaves which follows “an American President frustrated with politics as usual, who decides to play by his own rules. It tells the story of a man with good intentions who ultimately becomes corrupted by power.”
The report calls the “POTUS” series as a “topical… high-intensity drama and part wish-fulfillment/part cautionary tale.” The main character may or may not be based directly on Obama, but the project will likely be under intense scrutiny if the similarities between the sitting President and the fictional one are too overt.

“Homeland” and “24” veteran Howard Gordon is executive producing “POTUS,” with fellow “24” collaborators Evan Katz and Manny Coto also attached to the project. Coto has had previous stints on “Dexter” and “Star Trek: Enterprise,” in addition to the short lived “The ½ Hour News Hour;” which was an attempt by Fox News to create a conservative alternative to “The Daily Show” in 2007.
In addition to “Homeland” and “Legend,” Gordon is also executive producing a drama loosely based on “Frankenstein” for Fox. Both “POTUS” and “Frankenstein” will likely compete for a slot in Fox’s Fall 2015 TV schedule.
