Empire Brewing Company Getting Sued By Lucasfilm Over Lager Name

This is why we can’t have nice things, people. You try to be cute, funny, or inspired with a beer name, and all of a sudden the big Star Wars monster is suing you.

Empire Brewing Company knows exactly of what I speak, because they’re currently going through it. Lucasfilm doesn’t like the fact that a lager by this company was named “Empire Strikes Bock”.

Normally, this sort of thing comes up when there could be potential confusion while buying tickets at the box office or when at a retailer buying officially licensed merchandise, but it’s highly unlikely that anyone looking for Star Wars movie tickets or officially licensed memorabilia will be accidentally handed an Empire Brewing Company lager. Unless you’re a terribly inept individual, that is. In which case, you probably shouldn’t be working retail or serving the general public. Stop giving Star Wars beers to people looking for official Darth Vader figurines!

Yeah, I know. That does sound ridiculous. Anyway, good luck Empire Brewing Company. We all think the name for your beer is clever. In fact, it could even make people more aware of Star Wars and the upcoming films.

But hey, Lucasfilm doesn’t want free exposure, I guess.
