Sony… why? I know the “Overdrive Sunset” font used by Insomniac’s upcoming game of the almost- same name is pretty gosh-darn cool, but don’t you think players are going to instantly associate it with that game, which is exclusively NOT on your console? No? Bah, forget it — I don’t think anyone is listening.
If you hop onto PSN today, you’ll notice something called the “Sale of the Dead,” a multi-week promotion offering presumably scary or horror-themed games at reduced prices. The art is cool, the idea is cool, and hey, so is the font! So cool that it’s plastered all over Sunset Overdrive‘s marketing materials, since its developers, you know, invented the font for that very reason.
Now, Insomniac has explicitly stated than anyone is welcome to use the font, but Sony’s decision to do so seems an odd choice. Is this an honest mistake by some poor unsuspecting intern? Or a prank by an undercover Microsoft-loyalist working at Sony? Or perhaps, above anything else, the individual simply thought the choice would go unnoticed, or that it wouldn’t be relevant if it were. To be honest, it’s not as if it’s a big deal. It’s just weird. Regardless, it hasn’t gone unnoticed by the game’s official Twitter account.
Hey @Playstation. Nice font. Glad you guys are excited for @SunsetOverdrive too. https://t.co/Xb6qzqrN43

Speaking of Sunset Overdrive (thanks for the superb segue, Sony), it’s a new IP from independent studio Insomniac, releasing on October 28th. There’s a launch trailer and everything.
