At comic conventions across the country, there is a growing number of fans who have embraced cosplay. Basically, that means that they come to the cons in costume as their favorite characters and possibly to show off their costuming skills and other assets.
Some comic professionals have argued that cosplay is taking the focus of the conventions away from the comics. Even CraveOnline’s Iann Robinson isn’t exactly a big fan of cosplay, as noted in his controversial tongue-in-cheek column: Six Reasons I Hate Cosplay.
During this year’s New York Comic Con, Iann took the time to speak with the cosplayers themselves to better understand what they bring to the conventions. Along the way, Iann runs into Beariel the Hairy Mermaid, a mashup of Thor and Ronald McDonald and obscure cosplayers including characters from The Warriors and The Wiz!
