“Breaking Bad“ fans eagerly awaiting the upcoming and highly-anticipated “Better Call Saul” prequel, have just been gifted with a different kind of teaser. Walter White’s lawyer Saul Goodman is back, this time with his own country theme song.
The song, aptly titled “Better Call Saul: The Song”, is performed by country singer Junior Brown and the lyrics were penned by “Breaking Bad” showrunners Peter Gould and Vince Gilligan, who are also at the helm of the spin-off series.
The tune is both a play on “Breaking Bad” Season Two episode “Negro y Azul,” and Goodman’s infamous low-budget television commercials and print advertisements seen across Albuquerque, some of which appear in the song’s music video.
Some of the lyrics even suggest potential plot lines for the new show. Featured crimes in the jingle range from DUIs and vandalism to shoplifting a George Foreman grill and child abduction. “Saul, Saul, you better call Saul. He’ll fight for your rights, when your back’s to the wall,” sings Brown.
“Better Call Saul” is a prequel set back in 2002, six years before Saul Goodman, played by Bob Odenkirk, appeared on “Breaking Bad”. It is slated for US release in February after already suffering a network push back and despite having not even aired yet, it has already been renewed for a second season.
