Ford Launches ICON50 Celebrating The Mustang

Ford Motor Company celebrates Mustang’s influence on popular culture with the launch of ICON50, a unique campaign designed to explore culture and inspire Americans to embrace the sense of freedom and adventure new experiences can create. When was the last time you did something new and exciting?

A new survey commissioned by Ford as part of ICON50 found that 42% of Americans can’t remember the last time they tried something new which suggests they may have lost their sense of adventure. Bummer, right?

To celebrate Mustang’s 50th anniversary, Ford has assembled a group of cultural experts in music and entertainment, the culinary arts, sports and technology to identify the next wave of cultural drivers and inspiring people to help encourage a sense of adventure among Americans. Experts from Hard Rock Hotels and Casinos, Aagat, ESPN The Magazine and Mashable will curate a list of 50 innovators, then design a themed driving route for them in celebration of the Mustang’s anniversary.

The fifth collaborator will be named early next year as the campaign expands with cross county drives a consumer events. And since the Mustang is such a pop culture icon itself, what better way to show the car’s unique combination of style, performance and affordability than to put it on the road with a bunch of fearless influencers? Really, the Mustang’s influence goes well beyond the more than 9.2 million cars sold in its 50 years of continuous production.

During an intimate event on September 30th, we heard from representatives from four of the five collaborators and they are as excited to start the project as we all are to see it come to fruition. Although we haven’t yet heard the names of the chosen influencers, what we do know is that the media and general public will be invited to follow along via social media and online. See it all as it happens starting October 15th and unleash your own spirit of adventure.
