Back in July, Colin Farrell emerged as one of the leading contenders to get one of the main roles in “True Detective” Season 2. According to Farrell, his deal with HBO is in place.
While speaking with the Irish newspaper, The Sunday World (hat tip to Buzzfeed), Farrell said “I’m doing the second series. I’m so excited.” Farrell went on to note that casting for the other lead roles is still underway. He also added that “I know it will be eight episodes and take around four or five months to shoot… I know very little about it, but we’re shooting in the environs of Los Angeles which is great. It means I get to stay at home and see the kids.”
Farrell’s last television role was a guest appearance on “Scrubs” in 2005. He is primarily known for his feature film roles in Phone Booth, S.W.A.T., Minority Report, Alexander, Daredevil, The New World, Miami Vice, Total Recall, Saving Mr. Banks and Winter’s Tale.

Taylor Kitsch, Vince Vaughn, Elisabeth Moss and Rachel McAdams have all been rumored to be in contention for roles in “True Detective” Season 2. Series creator Nic Pizzolato has hinted that the new season of “True Detective” will “revolve around the murder of a corrupt city manager in the middle of “a potentially groundbreaking transportation deal.” Justin Lin is also reported to be in negotiations to direct the first two episodes of the season.
Although HBO has not yet announced a return date for “True Detective” Season 2, it will likely premiere in the summer or fall of 2015.
