Greg Norman Injures Hand In Chainsaw Accident

Golfing great Greg Norman has been released from a US hospital after an incident where he almost chopped off his left hand with a chainsaw.

The Australian native sportsman and former world number one has ensured fans he is recovering just fine from the incident, by posting a photo to his Instagram account with his “new fashion statement” – a large, pink foam protective shield he has to wear around his injured hand.

“Thank u all for your concern & good wishes. All well the morning after the accident. Here I am at the scene of the crime,” he wrote. The photo follows a previous post where “The Shark” was lying in a hospital bed, bandaged.

“Working with a chainsaw ALWAYS be respectful of the unexpected. I was one lucky man today. Damaged, but not down & out. Still have left hand,” he wrote. Just a week ago, the prolific Instagrammer posted a photo of himself working with a chainsaw to cut back a tree at his Florida property.

According to the Associated Press, Norman was cutting back trees in his South Florida home when the weight of a branch pulled his left hand toward the chain saw. He told the news outlet the blade hit him just below where a watch would sit and said doctors told him it missed his artery by just a fraction of an inch.

“Thank God the blade wasn’t running full speed or it would have taken my hand off,” Norman said. “I handled everything as calmly as I could. There is no major damage. There is nerve damage, but no muscular damage. They fixed me up and here I am.”

“At least I can still play tennis,” he added. He said he would wear his foam fashion piece for at least a few days and would be in a sling for a few weeks before starting rehab. “There’s a little tingling in my fingers, which is better than no fingers at all,” he said.
