Gillian Anderson Promoted To Series Regular For ‘Hannibal’ Season 3

Earlier this year, Gillian Anderson was only able to sporadically appear on “Hannibal” due to her commitment to NBC’s “Crisis.” But with “Crisis” over after a single season, Anderson is heading back to “Hannibal” full time.

TVLine is reporting that Anderson has been promoted to a series regular for “Hannibal” Season 3. During the closing moments of “Hannibal” Season 2, Anderson’s character, Dr. Bedelia du Maurier was revealed to be traveling with Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) as he fled the country.

“Hannibal” showrunner Bryan Fuller has previously confirmed that “Hannibal” Season 3 will begin one year later with Hannibal and Bedelia living in Europe. Previously, Bedelia was Hannibal’s psychiatrist, but their current relationship is more ambiguous.

“The cast and crew of Hannibal are positively giddy to be welcoming Gillian to Season 3 as a series regular,” said Fuller in a statement to TVLine. “A striking presence on stage and screen, she brings wit, grace and intelligence to every role she embodies. Screenwriting is so much easier when you’re inspired by a great actor and Gillian has filled the Hannibal writers room with wonderful inspiration. I can’t wait for audiences to see her make a bigger meal out of the Cannibal than ever before.”

Anderson is best known for playing Dana Scully on “The X-Files,” in addition to her roles in “The Fall,” “The Crimson Petal and the White,” Shadow Dancer, The Mighty, The House of Mirth and Playing by Heart.

“Hannibal” Season 3 will premiere on NBC at midseason in 2015.
