Nintendo is all about reaching gamers directly these days, and that trend appears to be continuing (if not intensifying) when it comes to the upcoming Super Smash Bros. games for Wii U and 3DS. Via its official Twitter account today, Nintendo revealed that it’s planning a Twitch-streamed event for September 12th. The event will include gameplay from both Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and other games, discussion of upcoming titles for 3DS and Wii U, and more. The official statement from Nintendo is below.
On Setptember 12th, we’ll be streaming 8 hours of gameplay via Twitch, including a look at the final version of Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS. But first, we’ll be covering some upcoming games for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.
So the obvious followup question is… which “upcoming games” will be discussed? With its holiday lineup reasonably cemented, it’s very possible that Nintendo will reveal some unannounced 3DS or Wii U titles on Friday, most likely slated for release in 2015. Perhaps some new Zelda U info to help push potential Wii U buyers over the edge this holiday? Other potential topics include new info about Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, new eShop titles, the remaining unrevealed Smash Bros. characters, or something else entirely.

Regardless, you can catch the entire event on Nintendo’s Twitch channel here when the times comes, and if Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai has anything to say about it, you can bet there will be at least one bombshell of an unexpected surprise. Until then, brace yourselves.
