Microsoft Is Throwing Destiny Midnight Launch Parties at Its Stores, and Giving Away “Special Gift Bags”

Everybody’s amped for Destiny, but the real question is, how are you going to celebrate? Well, if you’re an Xbox One owner, you might want to consider celebrating with Microsoft.

Despite Destiny‘s status as a multiplat with exclusive content on PlayStation platforms, it doesn’t appear as though Microsoft is harboring any ill will toward the game’s developer Bungie. In fact, quite the opposite; on the eve of the game’s release (aka tonight), Microsoft stores around the nation will be holding Destiny release parties. The parties are from 10pm to 2am according to official documentation, with lines beginning at 9pm.

As for what exactly Microsoft constitutes as “partying,” you can expect a variety of fun but admittedly modest activities. Starting at 10pm you’ll be able to play Destiny, “score snacks and awesome prizes,” get your copy when the clock strikes twelve, and last but not least, win exclusive swag. That’s only if you’re among the first 100 people to line up, though. Swag bags ain’t cheap.

The swag bags are said to contain “awesome stuff,” so at the very least it may be worth grabbing one to sell its contents on eBay the next day. If it turns out the swag is too amazing to sell, then keep it! A win-win either way. Unfortunately the bags are one per person, so you won’t be able to create a thriving eBay economy powered by Destiny swag alone. Then again, that may still happen on a larger scale.

Microsoft’s launch parties don’t net you an early copy, but it’s still a nice idea to help get fans and Xbox One owners hyped for a big release. Anyone planning to attend one of these? Let us know. And send us some swag if you’re feeling up to it — we pay in the triple digits. Starting at 100 cents.
