Robert Downey Jr has warned fans not to hold their breath for a fourth Iron Man instalment. In a recent interview the actor said there were “no plans” for him to reprise his role as Tony Stark in any future Iron Man movies.
“There isn’t one in the pipe,” Downey Jr told Variety at the Toronto International Film Festival. “No, there’s no plan for a fourth Iron Man.” Downey Jr was in Toronto to promote his new film The Judge.
In response to how he’d feel about another actor taking on the Tony Stark role, Downey Jr said, “I like that the idea is that it would be up to me, like I’m casting director for Marvel.” However, his Judge co-star Robert Duvall advised him not to hand the role to anyone else.
Fans will still get the chance to see Downey Jr as Tony Stark in two upcoming Avengers movies. The first, The Avengers: Age of Ultron, has already wrapped filming and is due to be released in May 2015. Avengers 3 is expected to be released some time in 2018.
