During the TCA press tour, the producers of “Constantine” teased that they had access to DC Comics’ supernatural characters and mentioned that they had tentative plans to introduce Jim Corrigan aka The Spectre as an ongoing guest star.
IGN is reporting that Emmett Scanlan has been cast as Jim Corrigan, a New Orleans homicide detective who will be drawn into the occult world of John Constantine (Matt Ryan) as a reluctant ally. Scanian will recur as Corrigan over the course of the first season. For this incarnation, Corrigan is described as “someone who is obsessed with justice, and who doesn’t let police procedure or red tape stop him from putting away the bad guys, even if the bad guys turn out to be inhuman.”
At this point, it appears that Corrigan will be established as a human character before transforming into his comic book alter ego, The Spectre. As created by Jerry Siegel and Bernard Baily in 1940, Corrigan became The Spectre after his murder and resurrection as a supernatural force of justice. Later depictions of The Spectre have used Corrigan as the human host for the embodiment of God’s vengeance on Earth.
