Earlier this week, Bleeding Cool reported that producer Michael Green was preparing a Supergirl TV series for development. E! Online picked up its own story about the Supergirl TV series this morning, but it turns out that the rumors weren’t entirely correct.
Deadline is reporting that there is a “Supergirl” TV series in development, but Green isn’t involved at all. Instead, “Arrow” and “The Flash” executive producer Greg Berlanti is spearheading the project alongside Ali Adler, his collaborator on the short-lived ABC superhero series, “No Ordinary Family.”
The “Supergirl” project is still very early in its development and it may not even be called Supergirl. The report notes that Berlanti and Adler will need to clear that title with DC and Warner Bros.; which isn’t an automatic greenlight from either corporate parent.
Created by Otto Binder and Curt Swan in 1959, Supergirl (aka Kara Zor-El) was the cousin of Superman (aka Kal-El) who is also one of the last survivors of the planet Krypton. Supergirl has starred in her own comic book series and she remains an important part of the Superman mythos. In 1984, Helen Slater played the title character in the Supergirl film. More recently, Laura Vandervoort played Kara Zor-El on the TV series “Smallville.”

While The CW seems like a natural home for the “Supergirl” TV series, Berlanti and Adler will take it out to several networks within the next few weeks in the hopes of finding a home on TV. During the last development season, DC landed “Constantine” on NBC, “Gotham” on Fox and “The Flash” on The CW.
