Zach Galifianakis is returning to TV.
FX has announced that it has ordered a ten episode first season of “Baskets,” a new comedy series starring Galifianakis Chip Baskets, a man who attempts to become a respected clown. According to the official description of the show, “one man in Bakersfield, California dares to follow his dream of becoming a professional clown. But after an unsuccessful enrollment at a prestigious clowning school in Paris, the only job he can find is with the local rodeo.”
“Baskets” was co-created by Galifianakis, Jonathan Krisel and Louis C.K., the star and creator of “Louie” on FX. Krisel will serve as the showrunner of “Baskets” and the series will begin production in 2015.
Although Galifianakis is best known for his role in The Hangover Trilogy, he has previously co-starred in HBO’s “Bored To Death” and “Tru Calling” on Fox. He has also appeared in “Reno 911!” and “The Sarah Silverman Program” in addition hosting his own comedy podcast, “Between Two Ferns.”

In a statement, FX President of Original Programming Eric Schrier said “Zach Galifianakis, Louis C.K. and Jonathan Krisel have created an absolutely brilliant show. To say Zach’s portrayal of the lead character Chip Baskets is hilarious/unique/riveting/fascinating would be an understatement. We can’t wait for the world to meet him.”
“Baskets” will premiere on FX in 2016.
