Back in 2002, Steven Spielberg directed a feature film adaptation of Philip K. Dick’s short story, Minority Report with Tom Cruise as the main character. Twelve years later, Spielberg may revisit Minority Report on television.
According to Deadline, Spielberg’s Amblin Television has placed “Minority Report” into development as a TV series with Godzilla screenwriter Max Borenstein attached to write the pilot. It’s not currently known if Spielberg will executive produce the project, but the TV incarnation of “Minority Report” will retain the central premise of a futuristic police force that uses precognition to catch murderers before they can carry out their plans.

“Person of Interest” has already co-opted the Minority Report premise in a more modern setting; which could make it more difficult to make a “Minority Report” TV show stand out. The recent cancellation of Fox’s “Almost Human” may also discourage some networks from pursuing another futuristic cop drama.
Bizarrely enough, there will already be a “Minority Report” TV series in early 2015. Comedy Central is replacing “The Colbert Report” by bringing in “The Minority Report with Larry Wilmore.” Wilmore’s “Minority Report” will be comedy/political talk show, but it wouldn’t surprise me if Amblin attempted to get Comedy Central to change the name of its series.
20th Century Fox TV and Paramount TV are both producing the “Minority Report” series with Amblin. The project will reportedly be pitched to various networks this week.
