It must be difficult for a studio known for movies like Up, Shrek, and The Croods to bow out to other film making companies. DreamWorks has decided to push the release of The Croods 2 and Puss in Boots 2: Nine Lives & Forty Thieves into the Holiday season of 2017 and 2018 in order to avoid competition with Marvel and DC films releasing right around the same time (November). Considering how well The Croods did for DreamWorks, this move may not come as a surprise, as some breathing room around the Holidays would surely help the second film do just as well or even better.
