The first season of “The Strain” is just about to hit its midpoint, but FX has already recommitted to the series.
FX has officially renewed “The Strain” for a second season of 13 episodes set to debut in Summer 2015. Based upon the vampire novel trilogy by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan, “The Strain” was adapted for television by del Toro, Hogan and former “Lost” showrunner, Carlton Cuse.
In a brief statement, del Toro said “I am thrilled! Another season to spread the virus! Working with Carlton, Chuck and FX has been immensely rewarding and we have such sights to unveil in the upcoming episodes—the blood hits the fan on this one, mankind becomes an endangered species.”

Cuse added that “It’s been immensely satisfying over the last year-and-a-half to work with the incredible team at FX, Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan to bring The Strain to life. I am grateful for all the blood, sweat and tears (but mostly blood) given to the project by all involved, and I could not be more excited to continue telling this epic story.”
According to FX, “The Strain” is averaging 11 million viewers per episode across all platforms, with 4.5 million viewers for first run episodes when Live+7 numbers are factored in.
There are seven remaining episodes of “The Strain” Season 1, which continues this Sunday. As part of the renewal announcement, FX revealed that the first season of “The Strain” will hit DVD and Blu-ray on Tuesday, December 2.
